Delhi Police Bust Camel-Borne Liquor Smuggling Racket on South Delhi’s Forest Tracks

A tip-off led officers to remote paths that smugglers used to bypass vehicle checkpoints.

Overview

  • Five men were arrested after officers intercepted three camels carrying illicit consignments near the MehrauliBadarpur border, police said.
  • Police recovered over 42 cartons holding nearly 2,000 quarters of liquor and 24 beer bottles, along with the animals used to transport them.
  • The accused were booked under Sections 33/38 of the Delhi Excise Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, according to officials.
  • The camels were seized and will be transferred to animal welfare authorities for care, the South district deputy commissioner of police said.
  • Investigators say the group used forested routes on the Delhi–Faridabad periphery to avoid detection, and a broader probe into the network is underway.
