Overview

  • The 60-year-old suspect, identified as Veerpal alias Maiju, was taken into custody by the Delhi Police’s Northern District Range in Lucknow on August 4, 2025.
  • He was declared a proclaimed offender in January 2005 under FIR No. 681/2004 after allegedly killing his second wife in a September 2004 attack at Jahangirpuri, northwest Delhi.
  • Investigators used a combination of manual surveillance and technical inputs to track and arrest him in the Bakshi Ka Talab area of Lucknow.
  • While in hiding, he adopted the identity Vijay alias Ramdayal, sold his ancestral land in Farrukhabad, remarried and fathered three daughters.
  • Authorities are preparing to transfer him to Delhi to face trial on charges of murder and attempted murder.
