Delhi Police Arrest Suspect in Red Fort Jewelled Kalash Theft

CCTV tracking led officers to the accused days after the urn vanished.

  • Special commissioner of police (crime) Devesh Srivastava said the accused, identified as Bhushan Verma, was arrested by a crime branch team in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.

  • The gold kalash weighs about 760 grams with roughly 115–150 grams of diamonds, rubies and emeralds, is valued at over ₹1 crore, and was brought daily for rituals by businessman Sudhir Kumar Jain.
  • An e-FIR was lodged at Kotwali under BNS section 303(2); police earlier said a smaller jhari and a gold coconut were also reported stolen, and recovery efforts are ongoing.
