Overview

  • Karanbir Singh, 22, was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in Gurdaspur on July 26 under the Arms Act for his role in the April 7 grenade assault on Qila Lal Singh Police Station in Batala.
  • He confessed to coordinating with Babbar Khalsa International handlers abroad via social media, traveling to a West Asian country to secure funds, and sheltering the attackers at his home.
  • The arrest follows the July 22 detention of associate Akashdeep Singh, alias Bazz, in Indore for supplying weapons and aiding the Batala attackers.
  • A social media post by BKI operatives Happy Passia, Mannu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria claimed responsibility for the April attack as retaliation for a December 2024 counter-terror operation.
  • The NIA has taken over the probe and is mapping a broader network of financiers, logistics facilitators and potential sleeper cells linked to the transnational BKI network.
