Delhi Plans District Hostels for Visually Impaired Girls and Reopening of Student Facilities

The push follows earlier hostel closures, including last year's shutdown of the Isapur residential school.

Overview

  • Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh announced a hostel for visually impaired college girls in every Delhi district.
  • The government said it is working to reopen shut hostels and construct new ones for students from underprivileged backgrounds.
  • A hostel for visually impaired college girls has been inaugurated in Timarpur during the Sewa Pakhwada.
  • The Isapur residential school serving SC, OBC, minority and orphan students closed in September 2024 due to a dilapidated building, with about 800 students enrolled against a 1,200 capacity.
  • Plans also include reopening the Sanskar Ashram in Dilshad Garden as part of the residential support expansion.
