Delhi Plans AI-Driven Bus Management System
Officials say the platform will centralize real-time tracking, fare reconciliation, charging schedules, maintenance to manage rapid electrification and planned fleet growth.

- DTC has begun a procurement to hire an agency to design, develop and operate an AI/ML-enabled Bus Management System under a five-year, two-month contract that includes a two-month implementation window, the corporation said on Saturday.
- The tender requires the BMS to integrate live feeds from GPS devices, onboard cameras, vehicle telemetry, charging infrastructure and Electronic Ticketing Machines so operations and revenue data sync without manual reconciliation.
- Planned AI functions include ETA and delay prediction, route and crew optimisation, electric-bus charging scheduling, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance and battery degradation forecasting.
- The project prescribes an embedded DTC IT team of at least eight specialists — a project manager, MIS expert, four system analysts and two data scientists — signaling the vendor will run day-to-day operations rather than a one-off software sale; no system is yet live.
- The push responds to a rapid shift to electric buses — DTC runs roughly 6,269 buses with over 4,500 electric vehicles — and officials expect the platform to support a target fleet increase to 14,000 by 2028–29 while enabling links to city services such as the Delhi Transport Stack and the One Delhi App.
