Delhi Plans 4-Km Tunnel to Extend Munak Canal Corridor to Kashmere Gate

The PWD has begun a detailed project report to set the alignment and tunnelling plan, signaling a pivot to longer-horizon transport upgrades.

Overview

  • The extension would carry the elevated road past Inderlok via a 4-km tunnel to Kashmere Gate ISBT, according to the PWD and the minister.
  • Once built, the corridor is expected to span roughly 24 km and offer a continuous, signal-free route from the DelhiHaryana border into central Delhi.
  • Preliminary departmental estimates project up to a 40% cut in travel time between the border and Kashmere Gate.
  • Officials say the link would relieve bottlenecks at Mukarba Chowk, Azadpur and Roshanara Road and aid commuters from Sonipat, Rohtak and the UER.
  • Interdepartmental coordination has started, with the DPR to finalize alignment, design and integration; costs, clearances and timelines have not been announced.
