Delhi Orders Private Schools to Form Fee Regulation Panels by Jan. 10 Under New Law

The directive launches a two-tier, time-bound system with parent representation to vet 2025–26 fee proposals and route disputes to district committees.

Overview

  • The Directorate of Education issued an order under the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Act, 2025, which was notified on December 10.
  • Each School Level Fee Regulation Committee will have 11 members and be chosen by public lottery in the presence of observers, with a seven‑day advance notice and a waiting list to ensure transparency.
  • Schools must constitute committees by January 10, submit fee proposals by January 25, and secure a decision within 30 days or face automatic referral to the District Level Fee Appellate Committee.
  • Only one parent per family may serve and parents from EWS, DG or CWSN categories are ineligible; selected members must confirm within three working days and final decisions must be posted on school notice boards and websites.
  • More than 1,500 private unaided recognised schools are covered, non‑compliance can trigger action under the Act, and the 2025–26 schedule is a one‑time operational timeline before stricter routine compliance from 2026–27.
