Delhi Orders Private Schools To Form Fee Panels by Jan 10 Under New Law

The order creates a time-bound, parent-inclusive review of private school fees to check arbitrary increases.

Overview

  • Delhi’s Directorate of Education issued formal directions under the 2025 fee regulation law, signed by Director Veditha Reddy, for the 2025–26 session.
  • Schools must place their fee proposals before the School Level Fee Regulation Committee by January 25, and the panel must decide within 30 days.
  • Each committee includes a management chair, the principal, three teachers, five parents and a DoE nominee, with parent and teacher members chosen by a public draw overseen by observers; EWS, DG and CWSN parents are ineligible, and only one parent per family may serve.
  • If a school panel fails to decide on time, the matter is automatically escalated to the District Level Fee Appellate Committee for review and adjudication.
  • Delays in forming committees, filing proposals or disposing cases will be treated as non-compliance under the Act, and from 2026–27 schools must follow the statutory timelines without exception.
