Delhi Orders One-Year Drive to Complete Four Stalled Government Hospitals

PWD has requested ₹627 crore to fund completion, with new tenders pending.

Overview

  • The cabinet cleared the relaunch of construction at Jwalapuri, Madipur, Hastsal and Siraspur with instructions to finish within a year.
  • PWD estimates ₹627 crore will be needed across FY2025–26 and FY2026–27 to complete the four buildings.
  • Progress and targets: Siraspur is 80% complete and aimed for July 2026; Jwalapuri 75% for July 2026; Madipur 75% for July 2026; Hastsal 65% for September 2026.
  • More than ₹1,000 crore has already been spent, and delays were attributed to contractual disputes, cost escalation, unauthorized extra floors, missing facilities and a land dispute.
  • Officials cite legal action and responsibility fixing, with strict quality control, monthly progress reports, contractor mobilisation and staffing and equipment planning to enable rapid opening after civil works.
