Delhi Opens 200-TPD Biogas Plant at Nangli Dairy

Officials cast the CBG supply model as a template for similar waste-to-energy sites across the capital.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the facility on September 20, calling for more plants to handle cattle dung and municipal waste.
  • The site processes 200 tonnes of dung and biodegradable waste daily to produce about 14,000 cubic metres of raw biogas, yielding roughly 5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas.
  • Gas will be supplied to Indraprastha Gas Limited through a pipeline, while roughly 30 tonnes of compost a day are slated for distribution to farmers.
  • The project spans 2.72 acres, cost around Rs 16 crore, and includes payments of 65 paise per kilogram to dairy owners for collected dung.
  • Gupta blamed delays on the previous AAP government after funds were sanctioned in 2018, as the administration now outlines plans to replicate plants across Delhi to cut drain and Yamuna pollution.
