Overview

  • The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has cleared 90% of its 76 major drains and the PWD has desilted about 1,100 km—half of its 2,100 km network.
  • A Central Flood Control Room at the East DM’s office will operate 24/7 from June 15 with representatives from all civic bodies tracking Yamuna water levels and coordinating emergency responses.
  • The PWD has floated tenders for 12 flow-control gates at key Yamuna-linked drains, including Kalindi Kunj and Okhla Barrage, to prevent backflow during heavy rains.
  • Delhi has mapped 445 waterlogging points—up from 308 in 2023—and set up 11 Quick Response Centers equipped with engineers, vehicles and cleaning machines for on-site interventions.
  • Sector Committees led by Cabinet Ministers are overseeing flood management at 194 vulnerable locations, supported by 79 permanent pumps across 12 zones and 465 temporary units on standby.
