Delhi-NCR Sets Sept. 17 Opening for Namo Bharat RRTS and Pink Line Extension

Phased commissioning positions Delhi for faster regional links through ETCS-based mixed operations.

Overview

  • Commercial service is slated to begin on September 17 for the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor and the 12.3 km Majlis Park–Maujpur Pink Line extension, according to multiple reports.
  • About 55 km from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South is already running with 11 stations, and trial runs on the remaining sections concluded last month.
  • Once fully operational, expected headways improve from 15 minutes to 10 minutes and the Sarai Kale Khan–Modipuram journey is projected at roughly 58 minutes.
  • NCRTC officials say Namo Bharat and the upcoming Meerut Metro will share tracks up to Modipuram using a hybrid ETCS Level 3 system over LTE with ATO and platform screen doors.
  • The Pink Line addition completes the circular route with eight elevated stations and features Delhi’s first 1.4 km double-decker viaduct between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, while Sarai Kale Khan is planned as a multimodal hub linking metro, rail and buses.
