Delhi-NCR Reimposes GRAP Stage-III Curbs as AQI Climbs

The CAQM escalated curbs after readings entered the very poor range on forecasts of deteriorating dispersion.

Overview

  • The CAQM sub-committee activated all Stage-III measures with immediate effect across the entire National Capital Region.
  • Delhi’s official AQI rose from 343 at 4 p.m. on January 15 to 354 at 4 p.m. on January 16, keeping air quality in the very poor category.
  • IMD and IITM forecasts warn that slow winds and a stable atmosphere could push the city’s average AQI above 400 into the severe bracket in the coming days.
  • Stage-III curbs halt non-essential construction and demolition, close stone crushers and certain fuel-noncompliant industries, and restrict BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers along with specified diesel buses and goods vehicles.
  • GRAP 3 had been lifted on January 2 while Stage I and II measures continued, and authorities say ongoing monitoring will determine any additional responses.
