Delhi-NCR Enforces GRAP Stage III as AQI Stays in ‘Severe’ Range, Schools Shift to Hybrid

Stagnant weather trapping pollutants prompted the emergency shift to stricter curbs.

Overview

  • Delhi’s average AQI registered 413 on Wednesday morning after hitting 425 on Tuesday, with many hotspots in the 450–464 range, including Mundka, Wazirpur and Bawana.
  • CAQM invoked GRAP Stage III across the region, halting non-essential construction and demolition and shutting stone crushers and mining to cut high-dust emissions.
  • Vehicle curbs now bar private BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, with limited exemptions including for persons with disabilities and essential services.
  • Schools up to Class 5 are conducting classes in hybrid mode, private employers have been urged to use work-from-home or hybrid setups, and authorities have ordered staggered timings for public offices in key NCR districts.
  • Essential public projects such as railways, metro and airports continue under strict dust and waste controls, and the Centre has asked NCR authorities to submit action-taken reports on pollution control measures.
