Delhi-NCR Enforces GRAP Stage III as AQI Jumps Into Severe Range

Officials blamed calm winds and a temperature inversion for trapping pollution near the surface.

Overview

  • The CAQM activated Stage III restrictions across the region after Delhi’s average AQI rose from 362 on Monday to about 425 by 9 am Tuesday.
  • Non-essential construction and demolition are suspended, with stone crushers and mining shut and most diesel generator sets barred except for emergency use.
  • Vehicle curbs include a ban on private BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar, plus limits on certain diesel goods vehicles and inter-state diesel buses, alongside work-from-home advisories.
  • To reduce exposure, schools up to Class 5 were directed to run in hybrid mode, allowing online classes where feasible under a Delhi government circular.
  • Monitoring showed 34 of 39 stations in the severe band, including Bawana at 462 and Wazirpur at 460, while essential public projects continue under strict dust controls and a prior 10-hour pollution-data outage drew scrutiny.
