Overview
- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi directed zonal deputy commissioners to mark three to four feeding points in each of the 250 wards and submit reports within a week, targeting roughly 1,000 locations.
- MCD said feeding areas must avoid intersections, markets, residential entry points and places with heavy movement of children or senior citizens.
- Uttar Pradesh’s urban development department ordered municipal bodies on September 4 to establish designated feeding points, install notice boards and proceed legally against street feeding outside these sites.
- If local consensus on locations fails, officials will constitute an animal welfare committee including the chief veterinary officer, police, district animal-cruelty redressal representatives, the complainant and RWA/AOA members.
- Authorities are expanding sterilisation capacity and planning shelters, including a proposed facility at Delhi’s Dwarka complex, while Ghaziabad reports about 60,000 strays with roughly 32,000 sterilised and has commissioned a new survey.
