Delhi Metro Implements First Fare Hike Since 2017 With ₹1–₹4 Increases

DMRC says the statutory revision aims to shore up finances strained by the pandemic.

Overview

  • The new fare chart sets ₹11 for 0–2 km and ₹64 for trips beyond 32 km, with slabs of ₹21 (2–5 km), ₹32 (5–12 km), ₹43 (12–21 km) and ₹54 (21–32 km).
  • Airport Express Line tickets now cost up to ₹5 more, on top of the nominal hikes across other lines.
  • The revision took effect on August 25 and applies to weekdays as well as Sundays and national holidays.
  • Smart-card concessions continue: 10% off every journey plus an extra 10% discount during off-peak hours.
  • DMRC attributes the change to COVID-era revenue losses, JICA loan repayments and refurbishment needs, noting it follows 4th Fare Fixation Committee recommendations approved by the board.
