Delhi Metro Closes 17 Central Stations, Halts Entry and Exit

Authorities limited station access as a security measure to restrict movement around protests at Jantar Mantar.

Overview

  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said the listed stations would stop passenger entry and exit from 7:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24 until further instructions.
  • Interchange between lines will remain available only at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat to preserve limited network connectivity.
  • Commuters faced major disruption with some journeys taking about 40–45 minutes longer and buses and alternate routes becoming heavily crowded.
  • DMRC posted the service update on X and expanded an initial list of 16 stations to include Jhandevalan, while one outlet later reported an unconfirmed addition of New Delhi station.
  • The closures primarily affect Delhi’s administrative and commercial core, so travelers are being urged to check metro updates and plan alternate routes or stations before starting travel.
