Delhi MCD Floats Tenders for Four Waste Plants to End Fresh Landfill Dumping Within Six Months

The Rs 361.42 crore buildout targets the roughly 4,700‑tonne daily shortfall that has been sending fresh waste to Delhi’s legacy landfills.

Overview

  • The projects are planned at Bhalswa (1,800 TPD), Okhla (1,400 TPD), Narela‑Bawana (1,200 TPD) and Singhola (700 TPD), largely on reclaimed land.
  • Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said the facilities are expected to be operational in about six months to halt fresh dumping at landfill sites.
  • Delhi generates about 11,500 tonnes of waste daily, with existing waste‑to‑energy plants handling 6,550 TPD and leaving roughly 4,700 TPD unprocessed.
  • Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood directed expedited segregation at source, procurement of modern machinery, GPS monitoring of cleanliness assets and stronger fire‑prevention at dumpsites.
  • Biomining and small‑scale recovery continue, with land reclaimed at Bhalswa, Okhla and Singhola and 155 NGO‑run MRFs processing about 252 TPD, and officials said no new waste is currently being dumped at the Okhla landfill.
