Delhi MCD Bypolls Conclude Across 12 Wards With Low Turnout Reported

Results due on December 3 will serve as the first read on Delhi’s political mood since the BJP’s February assembly win.

Overview

  • Voting ran from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm across 580 booths at 143 locations with 2,320 polling staff, 2,265 security personnel, 580 Home Guards and 13 CAPF companies deployed.
  • Overall turnout stood at 31.3% at 4 pm, with ward-level variation from 41.95% in Chandni Mahal to 20.87% in Greater Kailash.
  • Fifty-one candidates, including 26 women, contested the 12 seats, nine of which were previously held by the BJP and three by AAP.
  • Election arrangements featured real-time webcasting, QR-code feedback, model and all-women ‘Pink’ booths, early DTC buses from 3:00 am and Metro services from 4:00 am with the last train at 11:30 pm.
  • EVMs have been secured in strongrooms for counting on December 3 in a three-way contest among BJP, AAP and Congress, following AAP leader Rajesh Gupta’s eve-of-poll switch to the BJP.
