Overview
- Mumbai Police apprehended Delhi resident Vivek Sabrawal on July 7 for allegedly using forged documents to reactivate the late NCP leader’s mobile number on a new SIM.
- Investigators say Sabrawal submitted fake Aadhaar, PAN, GST details and a forged company letterhead under multiple aliases to Vodafone to change the number’s authorised signatory.
- The scheme was uncovered on June 25 when Vodafone copied Dr. Arshiya Siddique on its response to the fraudulent application, alerting the family to the unauthorised request.
- Dr. Arshiya Siddique filed an FIR at Bandra Police Station, leading to charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating, forgery and related offences.
- Authorities are analysing electronic and forensic evidence to uncover potential co-conspirators targeting the number’s links to the Siddique family’s businesses.
