Delhi Makes Officers’ Attendance Mandatory at Weekly ‘Jan Sunwai’ Public Hearings

A formal order from the divisional commissioner turns earlier directions into enforceable rules that penalize absence without permission.

Overview

  • Copies of the order have been circulated to all department heads and to MCD, DDA, NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board.
  • Designated officers who cannot attend must secure prior permission from the concerned District Magistrate or face disciplinary action.
  • Departments are required to nominate sub-divisional or Deputy Commissioner-level officers to ensure consistent presence at the forums.
  • Every district must now hold one public hearing camp and one inter-departmental coordination meeting each week without fail.
  • The action follows reviews that found officers skipping sessions, and there are no public reports yet of penalties or enforcement outcomes.
