Delhi Lifts GRAP Stage IV After AQI Improves to 'Poor'

Forecasts point to a quick return to 'very poor' later this week.

Overview

  • Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI improved to 271 on Wednesday, down from 412 a day earlier, as stronger northwesterly surface winds dispersed pollutants, CPCB data showed.
  • CAQM revoked Stage IV restrictions across Delhi-NCR with immediate effect but kept GRAP Stages I–III in force to limit a rebound in pollution.
  • Sites shut for violations under previous orders cannot restart without explicit clearance from the CAQM, the commission clarified.
  • Official outlooks from AQEWS, IMD and IITM indicate air quality is likely to slip back to the 'very poor' band from Thursday to Saturday as conditions turn less favorable.
  • Vehicles were the largest contributor to Wednesday’s pollution load at 17.5%, and authorities reported intensified enforcement with 12,671 vehicle challans, 327 non-destined trucks diverted, and plans for six new monitoring stations including at JNU and IGNOU.
