Overview

  • Officials have reported that illegal immigrants used false or misrepresented documents to obtain Aadhaar cards, enabling access to passports, voter IDs, welfare schemes and jobs.
  • The Lieutenant Governor directed the Chief Secretary to phase out third-party vendors and shift all Aadhaar registrars to an in-house enrollment model within two months.
  • A comprehensive list of every Aadhaar enrollment centre in Delhi, including those run by municipal bodies, must be submitted by July 15.
  • Monthly audits of all enrolment centres will be conducted under the supervision of the Divisional Commissioner to detect irregularities.
  • The order highlights Delhi’s failure to implement UIDAI’s October 2022 mandate to move to in-house enrollment by March 2023 and calls for a fresh review of registrar duties under the 2016 regulations.
