Delhi Lays Foundation for Multi-Level E-Bus Depot, Pledges to Double DTC Fleet Next Year

The project is pitched as a clean transport upgrade with self-sustaining finances.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched construction of a three-level DTC facility at Hari Nagar designed to accommodate roughly 384–400 electric buses.
  • The depot will include about 81–84 fast-charging stations capable of fully charging a bus in around 40 minutes.
  • Planned green features include a 500 kW rooftop solar plant, a 170 KLD sewage treatment system, and rainwater harvesting, with officials citing a GRIHA 3-star goal.
  • About 2 lakh sq ft of retail and commercial space, office areas, dormitories, and new parking are intended to generate revenue and improve on-site operations.
  • The government vowed to expand the e-bus fleet from 3,000 to 6,000 by next year, flagged a forthcoming EV policy, outlined staff housing plans at Shadipur, and cited CAG-reported DTC losses of about Rs 65,000 crore to justify reforms.
