Delhi Launches Month-Long ‘Freedom From Garbage’ Drive Starting August 1

Overview

  • The campaign will run from August 1 to 31 with deep-cleaning, waste removal and public-awareness activities to mark Independence Day.
  • The government has allocated Rs.5 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to support the campaign’s implementation and resource needs.
  • Cash awards ranging from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.1 crore will be granted to top-performing Resident Welfare Associations, wards and assembly constituencies based on before-and-after photo submissions.
  • For the first time, civic bodies including MCD, NDMC, PWD and Delhi Police have defined department-specific roles to ensure unified action across markets, schools, hospitals and public spaces.
  • Initial waste clearance at schools, hospitals and offices is scheduled for the first two days, with weekend clean-ups in unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters followed by special drives at Yamuna ghats and along the Ring Road.
