Delhi Issues Tender for AI Bus Management System
The platform is meant to improve punctuality, optimise electric-bus charging, automate fare reconciliation for the city’s expanding fleet.
Overview
- Delhi Transport Corporation, which issued the tender on Sep 12–13, is hiring an agency under a five-year-plus contract with a two-month implementation window to design, deploy and operate the Bus Management System.
- The BMS specification requires real-time integration of GPS, onboard cameras, vehicle telemetry, depot charging systems and electronic ticketing machines so operators can monitor buses live and access historical records.
- Planned AI and machine-learning functions include ETA and delay prediction, route and crew scheduling optimisation, fleet and depot allocation, charging optimisation, anomaly detection and predictive maintenance for batteries.
- The system will automate ticket validation and revenue reconciliation by linking to ETMs, and it will generate compliance alerts, penalty calculations, concessionaire billing and audit trails to reduce manual reconciliation.
- DTC operates about 6,269 buses with more than 4,500 electric vehicles, and officials say the BMS will support the government’s plan to scale the fleet toward roughly 14,000 buses and more depots by 2028–29 while improving on-street reliability for passengers.
