Overview

  • The 20 MW/40 MWh facility at Kilokri delivers up to four hours of daily power—two hours each during day and night—to more than 100,000 residents in South Delhi.
  • The battery storage uses Lithium Iron Phosphate technology for enhanced safety, thermal stability and durability in urban conditions.
  • Developed by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited with support from IndiGrid, GEAPP, Amperehour and TERI, the system is India’s first commercially approved utility-scale storage installation.
  • Operators expect the BESS to bolster grid stability, optimise power procurement costs, manage peak demand and facilitate renewable energy integration.
  • The Delhi government plans to replicate standalone storage units in unauthorized colonies and other areas with limited or no grid access.
