Delhi, Himachal and Punjab Police Step Up Drug Crackdown With Hundreds of Arrests

Operations reflect zero-tolerance directives intended to dismantle drug syndicates by targeting distribution networks.

Overview

  • Delhi Police concluded Operation Kavach-8.0 on June 19 with 139 arrests, 133 NDPS cases registered and seizures of heroin, ganja, cocaine and other narcotics.
  • Himachal Pradesh Police registered 183 NDPS cases between May 19 and June 19, arrested 258 people and attached property worth ₹2.69 crore during a month-long STF and ANTF campaign.
  • Punjab Police set up checkpoints at 93 interstate entry and exit points on Day 111 of the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, arresting 127 smugglers and raising total arrests to 18,372.
  • Anti-narcotics units across the three states also seized illegal arms, illicit liquor and cash while conducting public awareness initiatives to educate communities on drug harms.
  • Despite robust enforcement leading to over 3.75 lakh arrests nationwide in the past three years, only 268 convictions have been secured under the NDPS Act.
