Delhi High Court Seeks NIA Response on MP Rashid Engineer's Bail Plea in Terror-Funding Case

Jammu and Kashmir MP Rashid Engineer, arrested in 2019 under UAPA for alleged involvement in a terror-funding case, has sought bail from the Delhi High Court.
The High Court issued notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to file a response and scheduled the next hearing for January 30, 2025.
Engineer claims the trial court's refusal to decide on his bail application since December 2024 violates his constitutional right to personal liberty under Article 21.
The NIA alleges Engineer and others used illicit funds to support separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, with links to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Engineer, an elected MP from Baramulla, has argued that delays in resolving his bail plea leave his constituency unrepresented in Parliament during critical sessions.
