Delhi High Court Gives ED Final Chance to Challenge Kejriwal’s Bail, Hearing Set for Nov. 10

Following nine adjournments sought by the agency, the court fixed a firm date as Kejriwal remains on interim Supreme Court bail.

Overview

  • Justice Ravinder Dudeja granted the ED a “last and final opportunity” after the agency sought time because ASG S. V. Raju was engaged before the Supreme Court.
  • The court told the ED to ensure the next date is not wasted and to argue its plea seeking cancellation of the trial court’s June 20, 2024 bail order.
  • Kejriwal’s lawyer opposed any further delay, telling the court the agency has already taken nine adjournments in the matter.
  • The High Court stayed the trial court’s bail within days, while the Supreme Court on July 12, 2024 granted Kejriwal interim bail and referred PMLA arrest questions to a larger bench that is yet to be constituted.
  • The ED calls the trial court order “perverse” and says it ignored its evidence, as the case stems from alleged irregularities in the 2021–22 excise policy said to have benefited certain licence-holders.
