Delhi High Court Bans DUSU Victory Processions, Warns Sanctions Ahead of Thursday’s Vote

Judges warned they may curb the union’s functioning for any disorder during the vote.

Overview

  • Ordering a citywide halt to post-result parades, the court said any breach may amount to contempt and sought fresh status reports from Delhi Police and DU after polling and counting.
  • Polling is set for September 18 with counting on September 19, using EVMs for central panel posts and paper ballots for college elections.
  • Police told the court they have issued hundreds of challans and taken action against vehicles used in flashy campaigning, with violations documented through photos and videos.
  • Authorities have tightened oversight for polling day with more than 600 officers, 160 body-worn cameras, added CCTV coverage and drones, alongside traffic controls and a student-only pedestrian route.
  • The contest pits ABVP, NSUI and the SFI–AISA alliance, with campaigns stressing student-welfare reforms under stricter anti-defacement rules that have yielded a visibly cleaner campus and multiple show-cause notices.
