Delhi Halts Trains, Shuts Old Iron Bridge as Yamuna Tops Danger Mark

A CWC warning over rising levels to about 206.50 metres has put the city on high alert.

  • Train movement over the Old Iron Bridge was stopped at 6:30 am Wednesday after the span was closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 4 pm Tuesday until further notice.
  • Delhi Traffic Police issued diversions via Hanuman Setu, Raja Ram Kohli Marg and Geeta Colony Road, with additional reroutes from Bela Road, Pushta Road and Ring Road corridors.
  • Officials confirmed the Yamuna has crossed the danger level at the Old Railway Bridge, with forecasts indicating levels could reach or exceed 206.50 metres.
  • Police and the 1&FC department are patrolling marginal embankments round the clock and have directed sector officers to warn and relocate people from vulnerable floodplain areas.
  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed relief efforts near Geeta Colony and said the Delhi government is coordinating with neighbouring states, while commuters were urged to use public transport and avoid roadside parking.
