Delhi Halts In-Person Classes for Nursery to Class 5, Moves to Online Only

The order follows GRAP Stage IV curbs after doctors reported rising respiratory cases in children.

Overview

  • The Delhi government suspended physical attendance for Nursery through Class V with immediate effect until further notice.
  • All government, government-aided, and unaided private recognised schools must conduct classes for these grades exclusively online.
  • Students above Class V will continue under the December 13 directions, with hybrid learning for most grades and in-person classes for 10 and 12.
  • Education Minister Ashish Sood cited hazardous air quality and instructed school heads and zonal officials to enforce compliance and inform parents.
  • Doctors and hospitals, including AIIMS and GTB Hospital, reported 20–35% increases in paediatric respiratory or influenza cases as parent groups welcomed the move but pressed for uniform implementation and raised screen-time concerns.
