Delhi Finalizes Groundwater Plan to Feed 50 MGD Dwarka Water Plant

The Delhi Jal Board will reroute supply from 228 tube wells to create a dedicated raw-water lifeline for the facility.

Overview

  • Officials said 22.8 MGD from tube-well clusters in Okhla, Wazirabad, Nilothi and Dwarka will be channelled to Okhla, Wazirabad, Nangloi and the new Dwarka plant.
  • The redistribution is framed as an optimisation of existing groundwater resources without altering current supply structures.
  • DJB will roll out the changes in phases to begin operationalising the Dwarka water treatment facility.
  • Once operational, the 50 MGD plant is expected to improve supply in Dwarka, Najafgarh, Palam, Dabri and nearby areas and reduce dependence on external sources.
  • No commissioning date was announced, with officials highlighting planning transparency, accountability and network stability as priorities.
