Delhi Extends Festival Loudspeaker Use to Midnight Through Oct. 3

The waiver covers Ramlila, Durga Puja–season events under the 45 dB residential limit.

Overview

  • A government order, cleared by Lt Governor V. K. Saxena, permits loudspeakers and public address systems until 12 am from September 22 to October 3.
  • The relaxation adds two hours to Delhi’s usual 10 pm cutoff and is restricted to Ramlila, Durga Puja, Dussehra and related programmes.
  • Organisers must follow Noise Pollution Rules, keep residential sound at or below 45 dB(A), and secure all required police and civic permissions.
  • Officials said district magistrates and agencies such as MCD and PWD are coordinating venue support, including through a single-window system.
  • Resident groups urged strict decibel control, while Muslim cleric Shahabuddin Razvi criticized the move as conflicting with Supreme Court directions.
