Delhi Extends Festival Loudspeaker Cut-Off to Midnight Through Oct. 3

Officials set strict noise caps alongside mandatory permissions for organisers.

Overview

  • An LG-approved order allows loudspeakers and public address systems to run until 12 am for Ramlila, Durga Puja, Dussehra and related events from September 22 to October 3.
  • The move adds two hours to the usual 10 pm deadline and remains limited to religious and cultural festivities, not a blanket waiver for other events.
  • Compliance with the Noise Pollution Rules is required, including keeping residential sound levels at or below 45 dB(A).
  • Organisers must still obtain prior permissions and clearances, with coordination led by district magistrates and civic bodies such as MCD, PWD, and forest and horticulture departments.
  • Festival committees welcomed the time-bound facilitation, while resident groups urged strict enforcement to protect neighbourhoods, citing impacts on the elderly and children.
