Delhi Eases GRAP-3 Pollution Restrictions Following Air Quality Improvements

The Commission for Air Quality Management lifted GRAP-3 curbs in Delhi-NCR as AQI levels dropped to 289, while measures under GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 are being intensified.

  • The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked Stage-3 restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) after Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) improved to 289, below the threshold for Stage-3 measures.
  • This decision follows the earlier rollback of Stage-4 restrictions, attributed to favorable meteorological conditions, including rain and strong winds.
  • Restrictions lifted under Stage-3 include the ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles and non-essential diesel-operated medium goods vehicles in Delhi-NCR.
  • Despite the rollback of Stage-3 and Stage-4 measures, enforcement of GRAP-1 and GRAP-2 measures is being intensified, which include dust control, waste management, and discouraging private vehicle use.
  • Air quality in Delhi-NCR typically worsens during winter due to a combination of unfavorable weather, vehicle emissions, crop residue burning, and other local pollution sources.
