Delhi Crime Branch Seizes 2,651 Litres of Adulterated Ghee Across Delhi and Haryana

Investigators now focus on mapping the supply chain after raids on godowns in Budh Vihar and Jind.

Overview

  • Police arrested alleged manufacturers Rakesh Garg and Mukesh, with the Delhi government’s Food Safety Department assisting in the action.
  • Officers recovered 2,241 litres from a Budh Vihar godown linked to Garg and 410 litres from a Jind facility tied to Mukesh, and the Jind unit was sealed with both men booked at the Crime Branch station.
  • According to police, the product was made by blending vanaspati and refined oil with chemical flavourings and synthetic colours to imitate pure ghee.
  • The output was packed in containers resembling popular brands and supplied at wholesale rates to dairies, distributors and retail outlets.
  • Police said the accused reported production costs of about Rs 200 per litre and wholesale pricing near Rs 350, with sales geared to increased pre-Diwali demand.
