Overview

• Special Judge Vishal Gogne has set July 29 for announcing his decision on taking cognisance of the ED’s prosecution complaint under the PMLA.
• The Enforcement Directorate filed its April chargesheet under Sections 3 and 4 against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and five others for allegedly using Young Indian Pvt Ltd to acquire Associated Journals Limited assets valued at over ₹2,000 crore in exchange for a ₹90 crore loan.
• ED has provisionally attached properties worth ₹661 crore linked to AJL across New Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow.
• The case originated from a 2012 private complaint by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy alleging cheating, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy by senior Congress leaders.
• Defence counsel contend the loan was intended solely to clear AJL’s debts and deny any personal gain or fraudulent intent.
