Delhi Court Extends NIA Custody of 3 Doctors and a Preacher by Four Days in Red Fort Blast Probe

The agency is pursuing multi-state leads into a professional network suspected of planning the November 10 suicide attack.

Overview

  • Principal and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna granted the extension after the initial 10-day remand expired under tight security that kept reporters out of the courtroom.
  • The four accused produced in court were Dr Muzammil Ganai, Dr Adeel Rather, Dr Shaheena Saeed and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay.
  • The NIA says it is following multiple leads and carrying out coordinated searches across several states to identify additional participants and to probe funding, planning and recruitment.
  • Investigators say seven arrests have been made so far in a case linked to a “white-collar” module previously flagged by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
  • According to investigators, an explosives-laden Hyundai i20 driven by Dr Umar-un-Nabi detonated outside the Red Fort on November 10, killing 15 people and injuring several others.
