Delhi Court Defers IRCTC Case Charge Order, Summons Lalu and Tejashwi for Oct. 13 Hearing

The case tests CBI claims of a quid pro quo in IRCTC hotel tenders during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rail ministry tenure.

Overview

  • Special Judge Vishal Gogne said the order on charge is near completion and will be pronounced on October 13 at the Rouse Avenue court.
  • All 14 accused, including Rabri Devi and former minister Prem Chand Gupta, have been directed to appear in person for the pronouncement.
  • The CBI alleges that maintenance contracts for IRCTC’s BNR Ranchi and BNR Puri hotels were steered to Sujata Hotel, owned by Vijay and Vinay Kochar, in exchange for three acres of land via a benami company.
  • Prosecutors led by SPP D P Singh argue there is sufficient material to frame corruption and conspiracy charges, while Lalu’s counsel Maninder Singh seeks discharge asserting the tenders were fair.
  • The court reserved its order on May 29 after extensive arguments that followed a 2017 FIR and raids at 12 locations linked to the Yadav family in Patna, New Delhi, Ranchi and Gurgaon.
