Overview

  • On May 26, Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha accepted Delhi Police’s closure report to drop the sexual harassment case filed by a minor wrestler against Singh.
  • Delhi Police had filed a 550-page cancellation report in June 2023 after the minor’s father admitted to lodging a false complaint and no supporting evidence was uncovered.
  • During an in-camera hearing on August 1, 2023, the complainant and her father told the court they were satisfied with the police investigation and raised no objection to closing the case.
  • In a reaction issued on May 28, Singh hailed the court’s decision as vindication and urged a review of women’s protection laws he said are being misused for political ends.
  • Singh remains on trial in a separate criminal case filed by six adult women wrestlers, with charges framed under IPC Sections 354, 354A, 354D and 506.
