Delhi Car Explosion Near Red Fort Kills 10 as Probe Tracks Suspected Terror Link

Police are probing a suspected link to a JeM/AGuH module exposed hours earlier by a 2,900 kg explosive haul.

Overview

  • Delhi Police registered a case under UAPA sections 16 and 18 along with Explosives Act provisions, and multi-agency teams including the Special Cell, NIA, NSG and CFSL are leading the investigation.
  • CCTV review shows a Hyundai i20 entered the Sunheri Masjid parking at 3:19 pm, exited at 6:48 pm and exploded around 6:52 pm near a Red Fort traffic signal.
  • The car was registered in Gurugram; the last registered owner, Mohammad Salman, was detained, and investigators are tracing subsequent transfers including a buyer named Tariq from Pulwama.
  • Investigators suspect a connection to a network from which about 2,900 kg of IED-related material, ammonium nitrate and weapons were seized the same day, with arrests spanning doctors Muazzmil Ahmad Ganaie and Adil Ahmad Rather and detentions linked to a woman doctor in Faridabad.
  • Authorities are conducting DNA testing to identify any occupants, examining a possible role of Dr. Umar Mohammad, and have heightened security at sensitive locations including Vaishno Devi, Jammu and other public sites.
