Delhi Braces for Earliest Monsoon Onset Since 2013 Under Yellow Alert

As per IMD data, Bengaluru will see mostly cloudy skies and intermittent rain throughout the week.

Overview

  • The India Meteorological Department expects the southwest monsoon to reach Delhi by June 24, marking the city’s earliest onset since rains arrived on June 16, 2013.
  • Yellow alerts remain in effect for Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad, warning of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 40–50 km/h through Wednesday.
  • Delhi’s air quality has improved into the ‘satisfactory’ category as rainfall and surface winds disperse pollutants after five consecutive days of wet spells.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted over Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and the Konkan-Goa region through June 26, with extremely intense downpours expected in Madhya Pradesh on June 23 and 24.
  • Surat recorded over 100 mm of rain on June 24, triggering flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas as local authorities urged residents to cooperate with rescue efforts.
