Delhi Begins Ban on Non‑Delhi BS‑III Commercial Goods Vehicles

Transport and traffic teams are deployed at 23 entry points to enforce CAQM’s GRAP curbs on polluting freight.

Overview

  • The CAQM order, effective November 1, bars entry of non‑Delhi‑registered commercial goods vehicles that are BS‑III or older.
  • Non‑Delhi BS‑IV goods vehicles have a transitional entry window until October 31, 2026, after which only BS‑VI, CNG, LNG or electric fleets may operate.
  • Exemptions include Delhi‑registered commercial goods vehicles, BS‑VI petrol and diesel vehicles, and vehicles powered by CNG, LNG or electricity.
  • Enforcement teams from the Transport Department and Traffic Police are stationed at key borders such as Kundli, Tikri, Rajokri, Aya Nagar and Kalindi Kunj, with round‑the‑clock checks planned.
  • Officials cite penalties under motor vehicle and air‑pollution laws, estimate 50,000–70,000 non‑compliant vehicles in the region, and urge Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to mirror the curbs.
