Delhi Begins Ban on Non-Delhi BS-III Goods Vehicles at City Borders

Enforcement teams are checking trucks at 23 entry points to cut vehicular emissions under GRAP.

Overview

  • Effective November 1, non-Delhi-registered commercial goods vehicles that are BS-III or older are barred from entering the capital under a CAQM order.
  • BS-IV goods vehicles from outside Delhi are permitted as a transitional measure until October 31, 2026.
  • Delhi-registered carriers, BS-VI vehicles, and trucks powered by CNG, LNG, or electricity remain allowed, with GRAP stage-specific curbs applying as announced.
  • On day one, police reported 5,325 non-destined vehicles checked, 256 turned back, and 1,747 challans issued for missing PUCs, with penalties enforceable under motor vehicle and air pollution laws.
  • Authorities deployed 23 joint Transport–Traffic Police teams at major borders and coordinated checks at over 120 locations, as CAQM urges Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to adopt parallel curbs; officials estimate 50,000–70,000 sub-BS-IV vehicles could be affected.
