Delhi Assembly Issues Notices to Punjab Police Over FIR on Alleged ‘Doctored’ Atishi Video

Leaders say using Assembly footage for a police case intrudes on the House’s privilege.

Overview

  • Speaker Vijender Gupta asked Punjab’s DGP, the state cyber chief and Jalandhar’s police commissioner to reply within 48 hours and share the forensic report and documents tied to the case.
  • The Delhi Assembly referred its own recording to the state forensic lab and sent the issue to the Committee of Privileges, asserting that House recordings are its exclusive property.
  • Jalandhar Police registered an FIR at the Cyber Cell on a complaint by Iqbal Singh over circulation of an edited clip, with officials saying the video was downloaded from Kapil Mishra’s social post for examination.
  • Punjab’s FSL report dated January 9 stated the clip’s audio did not contain the word “Guru” and concluded the video had been deliberately doctored with captions to attribute words not spoken by Atishi.
  • Political fallout widened as AAP staged protests in Punjab accusing rivals of spreading a fabricated clip, BJP mounted counter-protests in Delhi, and Punjab Congress leaders said they, too, were named over sharing the video.
