Overview

  • On July 4, Speaker Vijender Gupta formed the final six special committees, bringing the total to 35 panels for the 2025-26 legislative year.
  • Each nine-member committee is appointed under Rule 244A and chaired by a BJP legislator with AAP members included to ensure cross-party participation.
  • Committees cover core departments such as finance, transport, education, health and development alongside specialised welfare bodies on senior citizens, transgender rights, environment and ethics.
  • Panels are empowered to examine and recommend policy reforms, review Demands for Grants without cut motions, scrutinise referred bills, assess annual reports and conduct inquiries into matters of public importance.
  • The phased roll-out since early June reflects an Assembly overhaul under the GNCTD (Amendment) Act, 2021, aligning procedures with national parliamentary practices and promoting inclusive, gender-neutral language.
